Marchella Salazar
Meet Marchella Salazar, a native of Los Angeles, California, who was raised under the warm embrace of Puerto Rico's sunny climate. Her passion for fashion runs deep, a genetic gift from her father, a maestro in the world of large-scale private label production, and her mother, a savvy entrepreneur who owned boutique stores on the island. Surrounded by the lingo of fashion and a creative crowd from a young age, Marchella took a bold step at 14 when she began crafting high-waisted denim pants. She named her brand "Traveling Pants," inspired by the movie of the same name, which she proudly nurtured for two years.
Her journey then led her to the energetic streets of New York, where she attended a summer program at the Art Institute of New York, specializing in Fashion Design. Throughout high school, she was the cool, fearless trendsetter who dressed as she pleased. Upon graduating, she enrolled at Otis, the renowned art and design school in Los Angeles, majoring in Product Design with a focus on soft goods.
In the midst of her academic pursuits, she embarked on several internships in the fashion industry, landing a pivotal role as a stylist muse at the renowned Nasty Gal store. Here, her passion for styling people ignited. After completing her studies, Marchella returned to Puerto Rico, where her career as a stylist took off. Over the past five years, she has dressed esteemed artists for various awards ceremonies, music videos, photoshoots, media tours, concert performances, and exclusive events.
But Marchella's journey didn't stop there. She ventured into the world of high-end fashion with her own label, "Marchega," exclusively catering to celebrities, creating unique, one-of-a-kind pieces tailored for each client. Her designs have graced red carpets, earning recognition as the best-dressed.
In 2022, Marchella blazed another trail by opening Puerto Rico's first high-end showroom, curating a selection of brands, from rising designers to sought-after labels. December marks the launch of her showroom, where fellow stylists can tap into her curated archive to style their clients. Simultaneously, she's diligently working on taking "Marchega" to the masses.
Marchella Salazar is more than just a stylist; she's a versatile designer who possesses the unique ability to take an idea from the sketch on paper to a tangible product, seamlessly blending it with other designer pieces. She's a true force of nature in the fashion world, reshaping the industry with her avant-garde vision, impeccable grasp of textures and color palettes, deep reverence for the history of fashion, and her profound knowledge of the craft.
